A Saint"ly" performance by the 610 Stompers

Yeah so we barhop on Thursdays in Nola because basically we can. We were a little early for our weekly kickball game and no, we do not play--we simply cheerlead for our favorite team, the Crack Spreads, so we decided to make a stop at Urban South Brewery for a quick brew. As we approached the brewery, we noticed the 610 Stompers on the porch of an adjacent building practicing. For those of you not familiar with the Stompers, they are the premier men's men of dance troupes and are classified as "extraordinary men with extraordinary moves."

The night turned out to be a fundraiser for Make Music Nola which is an organization that teaches young people to engage in music by providing teachers and instruments for them. The Stompers were doing a performance to benefit the group and presented them with a check over 5000.00 to continue to purchase musical instruments and pay for education. Bean the Hearse was also present and patrons could take some time hot gluing all sorts of red beans and kidney beans to the hearse which will be featured in Lundi Gras festivities at Mardi Gras. Since this is a drinking blog, we settled for the Urban South Charming Wit which is brewed with coriander and orange peel in addition to Coop'd Up which is classified as their farmhouse ale in a tribute to the chicken farmer. Both are fragrant light beers with tremendous taste.

After a stunning loss(yes, kickball can be stunning) to a very nice opposing team, our kickball group ventured down St. Mary Street to the Saint which is a tucked away neighborhood bar that you would NEVER walk in to for fear of your life ending. It was movie night and our very nice bartender was explaining the lay of the land as she carded everyone---including old people. The Saint is a NOLA gem with graffiti and way weird memorabilia strewn about. Drink prices for a Beefeater and tonic and a Nola Blonde total ten dollars and there are crazy low priced specials on many beers including Schlitz that leave your wallet happy and your head hurting a bit.
