It's Just a Dry Heat

New Orleans in August is the hottest month for us but we generally get relief each afternoon with thunderstorms. Imagine having the desire to visit the desert in August just to enjoy the "dry heat," and that's just what we did because we are apparently not the smartest people on the planet and enjoy getting a tan in 114 degree heat.

Scottsdale Arizona, the fancy, modern portion of Phoenix for those of you who have not been there, is a beautiful city carved out of the Arizona desert. It's close enough to California to have lots of pretty people who also need some spectacular places to hang out in.

Sorso Wine Room is a comfortable neighborhoody saloon in the Kierland shopping area. It closely resembles the new Claret Wine Bar in uptown New Orleans except for the televisions which seems to be the norm in every Scottsdale restaurant. The menu is displayed on an Ipad which is cleverly configured for older people by providing easy navigation. Yes millenials, not everyone can navigate on an Ipad! A generous wine and beer menu is accompanied by an even more creative craft cocktail program.

The Henry was our choice for brunch and is a combination coffee house attached to a full service restaurant. You can bike, drive and almost walk to this place, and seating accomodates all dress codes. People watching here is extrordinary. A mimosa and bloody Mary cart floats through the room for table side cocktails, and fancy floral enhanced creations complete the picture.

Nightlife is also a big part of the city and AZ/88 did not disappoint. The interior space changes with each art exhibit keeping things fresh. Bar side activity is meet and greet, and the main dining area has a multitude of seating combinations to handle any sized group. A generous cocktail, wine and beer menu makes selecting your perfect beverage easy. One of the most unique aspects of the bar is that the bathroom entrances are unmarked and part of the wall so you only know if you are in the right one with the pink or blue coloring inside.
